Syfy Announces Lake Placid: The Final Chapter

Syfy Announces Lake Placid: The Final Chapter

Lake Placid: The Final Chapter - 2012-

Lest any plot threads be left dangling or any outstanding questions left unanswered, the Syfy channel has announced this week that Lake Placid: The Final Chapter not only exists but will be premiering in late September. The original Lake Placid first hit the silver screen in 1999, starring Bill Pullman and Oliver Platt. The movie was written by noted television creator David E. Kelly and was met with a mixed reaction from critics. Two sequels succeeded the first film, both made specifically for TV and both airing on Syfy.

The latest Lake Placid film, directed by Don Michael Paul, is being touted as the final installment of the inexplicably decade-spanning “giant crocodile eats people” film series. The film will star Yancy Butler, reprising her role as Reba from Lake Placid 3. Also starring in the film is Robert Englund, best known to horror and science fiction fans for his work as Freddy Krueger in the original Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Following in the proud cinematic tradition of Betty White, Cloris Leachman and Colin Ferguson, Englund will be playing the latest member of the eccentric, giant crocodile obsessed Bickerman clan. More specifically, Englund will be portraying Jim Bickerman, described by Syfy’s press release as “a poacher looking to score a big break on hides and eggs from those rare crocs in Black Lake.” You’d think he’d reconsider his line of work after all those family members died of giant crocodile related injuries. Anyway, Lake Placid: The Final Chapter will also star Elisabeth Rohm as a police officer hoping to stop the latest tragic, yet structurally inevitable giant crocodile rampage.

Lake Placid: The Final Chapter is just one of many upcoming made for TV films premiering on Syfy. On Saturday, September 15, Syfy will air what it is describing as a fantasy double feature at 7pm. First up is Aladdin and the Death Lamp, starring Kandyse McClure (Dualla from Battlestar Galactica) as a woman attempting to thwart an evil genie’s attempt to take over the world. Following that future classic will be Pegasus vs Chimera, starring Sebastian Roche (Thomas Jerome Newton, on Fringe). Pegasus vs Chimera is described by the press release only as being “a tale of good versus evil”, so that sounds like it will be worth everyone’s time.

Lake Placid: The Final Chapter, which will finally provide dramatic closure for all those diehard Lake Placid fans who presumably exist, will air September 29th on Syfy.
