Joss Whedon S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC
Joss Whedon’s New Pilot S.H.I.E.L.D Coming to ABC
That’s right, a S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot is in the works. And Buffy and Firefly fans can rejoice because Joss Whedon, might be involved which means he’s coming back to TV! Earlier in August, Disney revealed Whedon would be developing the Marvel-related TV series. Even better, it would be related to The Avengers.
In case you’ve been living under a rock in the past year, The Avengers (released in April) brought many of our beloved super-heroes into one mega-hit film. Famous Marvel characters include the Hulk, Iron man, Thor, Captain America and the lesser-known characters of Nick Fury, Black Widow and Hawkeye. The premise of the film can be considered a continuation of Thor, simply because it revolves around many of its themes and it includes a lot of Nordic legend characters. Joss Whedon is the man who brought this universe of massive proportions into this action-packed film.
Now, as it turns out, Whedon will be directing the pilot episode for S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) alongside his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. Up until recently did I become interested in watching Whedon’s Firefly, and Buffy has never really been my kind of thing but I do know this guy has the ingenuity to create series with cult following.
Let’s be honest, most TV series revolving super-human abilities have gone down the drain (despite how much us Geeks loved them), but I’m really putting my faith into this. With Marvel’s dive into the film industry these last few years, it’s safe to say most of us have at least heard of the term S.H.I.E.L.D. The Avengers, Iron man, Thor and even Captain America haven’t really done this division any justice. It wasn’t until The Avengers that we truly got a peek as to who and how they run this operation, and now we can expect to see more.
However, I wouldn’t expect any big time actors from the Avengers to show up, but hopefully we will be seeing Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson) and Cobie Smulders (if How I Met Your Mother allows it). In a recent Q & A session at the Writers Guild Theater, Whedon explained that the S.H.I.E.L.D. series would be “largely autonomous” from the Avengers sequel that is currently being worked on.
As for the S.H.I.E.L.D. crew team, I didn’t really know much about Jed Whedon or Maurissa Tancharoen. The good news is they were both a great part of Firefly and Buffy so we can expect the same quality work from them too.
There are still a lot of questions regarding Whedon’s plan for S.H.I.E.L.D. What do you guys hope to see in this new series?
